Top 7 Flash Mobs Of All Time

Ohio State Flash Mob Nothing can cheer you up on a lousy day like a good old flash mob. A group of people gathers in a crowd of unassuming onlookers and without warning breaks out in dance, freezes, or engages in some other out of the ordinary activity. It’s surprising, it’s bizarre, and it’s just downright awesome.

Students and staff at Ohio State University recently uploaded the latest flash mob clip to YouTube and it has inspired us to share some of our favorite flash mob videos with you. We hope you enjoy!

Flash Mob at the Ohio Union

Will start things off with the latest flash mob video. On Monday, Ohio State students and staff broke out in dance in a flash mob rendition of ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ at the new Ohio Union. The clip was uploaded to YouTube and already has over 236,000 views, 1,336 comments and 2,045 ratings.
While it isn’t our favorite flash mob video, this clip truly shows the viral potential of the flash mob. Just as the flash mob starts out with a single dancer and grows to hundreds within minutes, flash mob videos spread like wildfire on the web.

Frozen Grand Central

‘Frozen Grand Central’ is the clip that got the ball rolling for the flash mob revolution. Uploaded two years ago, with over 21.5 million views, this clip shows over 200 people freeze in the middle of Grand Central Station out of the blue. Minutes later, just as quickly as they froze, they unfreeze and walk away. The reactions of onlookers are priceless.

The T-Mobile Dance

A year ago, T-Mobile jumped on the flash mob bandwagon and rocked Liverpool Street Station in the clip ‘The T-Mobile Dance’. With over 20 million views, T-Mobile hit the jackpot with this advertisement.

Sound of Music Antwerp

200 dancers in the Central Station of Antwerp broke out dancing to ‘Do Re Mi’ from The Sound of Music in this clip, which has been viewed over 16.8 million times. This flash mob was organized as a promotion for a Belgian television show searching for someone to play the leading role in The Sound of Music.

Michael Jackson Dance Tribute Stockholm

‘Frozen Grand Central’ used the flash mob as a prank, T-Mobile and Belgian television used it for advertising, and in Stockholm, Sweden 300 dancers used it to pay tribute to Michael Jackson. The group of dancers learned the routine in half an hour and performed it an hour later, to the surprise and amusement of onlookers. The video has been viewed over 6.6 million times.

Black Eyed Peas Flash Mob On Oprah

A flash mob can be used to surprise a whole crowd of people or a single person. When the Black Eyed Peas performed on Oprah’s show in Chicago the whole audience surprised her with a flash mob. The dancing starts out with one enthusiastic girl in the front row and works its way to the back of the crowd until everyone is dancing to a choreographed routine. Oprah thought it was amazing to watch, and millions of viewers agree.

Supermarket Flashmob

In Manchester, 50 flash mobbers attempted to replicate ‘Frozen Grand Central’ in a local grocery store. The participants froze simultaneously throughout the store, holding up grocery items, leaning on columns, and even laying down on the floor. The result is very Twilight Zone-esque, as the regular shoppers continue to walk throughout the store, going about their business.
